For beginning students with instruments, I like to use the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and piano, I like to use Alfred's Basic Piano Course Lesson Book and for voice I use FULL VOICE Workbook. I know each student is different and prepared to adjust in any way to meet the student's need. Typically in the first lesson, I assess the playing level of the student by asking them general questions about what they have done with music so far. From there it is easy for me to determine what to begin teaching first. For beginner students, I like to start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book. If the student has graduated from the beginner book, then I can proceed to intermediate or advanced methods which will include a combination of studies in pedagogy, repertoire, composers, etudes, ensemble work, and technical studies.
