ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Bachelor Degree: Ohio Christian University, Master Degree: Luther Rice Seminary, Master Degree: Liberty University
Overview:
As a mother of 5, I am passionate and motivated my children to do their best at anything they want to do; this is the same with any of my students! I love music and love to teach children how to love music in everything they do. I have a BA in Arts with an emphasis in euphonium from Ohio Christian University, a Master in Biblical Counseling from Luther Rice and MA in Music Education from Liberty University. I have been in the marching band in high school for the last 5 years (8th grade - 12th grade) and was in the Ohio Chirstian University choir where we traveled to sing for different churches for 4 years. Music has always been in my blood and love to teach those who love music as well.

It is my goal to teach my students the basics of music to encourage and grow their love of music; from picking up their first instrument to singing their first note, my goal is to teach them music while playing and having fun by using the Kodály method.

EXPERIENCE
I have been an educator for about 10+ years (from teaching children in MOPS programs in undergrad to subbing for Hardin Co Schools, to Sunday School, children's choir at my church and a Bible Studies group on Tuesdays but have done private lessons for the past 3 years. I sub for Hardin Co Schools for about 3 years and enjoyed every moment of it. I have experience in working with children and adults with all sorts of disability. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!

METHODS USED
For beginning students with instruments, I like to use the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and piano, I like to use Alfred's Basic Piano Course Lesson Book and for voice I use FULL VOICE Workbook. I know each student is different and prepared to adjust in any way to meet the student's need. I like to start out the the fundamentals of hand placements, posture, how to sit or stand, what the notes are, etc. I believe by knowing the basic will help the student succeed in achieving one's goals. With young adults, I tend to use the adult additions of these books but I am very flexible and willing to do whatever it takes to challenge them.
LESSON STYLE

I find it more awarding to myself and my students develop the passion for music! With this being said, I find it highly important to progress with the student's pace. It is my goal to set goals that will fit the student's ability and to push to the point that the student can handle at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps that student's self-esteem and will eager the student to push his/her self more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instructions to their needs and wants.

Courtney is so sweet and down to earth. Since she has worked with children so long she is able to explain things where both children and adults can understand them. She is also patient and enthusiastic. I recommend her for any of your music needs.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm.
