Instruments: Piano, Voice, Recorder, Music, Keyboard

I teach music because I appreciate the joy it brings to my own life and want to share that with others. I have a student centered approach to teaching music with research based methods supported by, not only my own experience, but experts in all fields of learning. The same technique, phrase, experience or activity will not work for every student. It's important to me that I find the one that does by getting to know my students, inspiring them, challenging them and helping them discover their musical selves while still preparing them for any musical goal they would like to pursue. I'm a passionate musician who's always dedicated my life to helping people find the joy in music I've always found. While I do not have many accolades or accomplishments, I'm always more proud of bringing more people into our world than anything else. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments fuel students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

Instruments: Clarinet, Music

Typically in the first lesson, I assess the playing level of the student by asking them general questions about what they have done with music so far. From there it is easy for me to determine what to begin teaching first. For beginner students, I like to start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book. If the student has graduated from the beginner book, then I can proceed to intermediate or advanced methods which will include a combination of studies in pedagogy, repertoire, composers, etudes, ensemble work, and technical studies.
