My teaching experience started at age 12 with Alesia Byrd Johnson. I worked with toddlers and as they aged I would continue in their classes while adding the next group of children. For beginning students I teach out of the Rubank Elementary Method books. These books are most comprehensive for beginning students. As the student progresses I begin introducing them to solo repertoire, scales studies, and jazz improvisation. My approach is much different with adult students. I ask them what are their musical goals and from there I can create a curriculum based on adult students needs and wants. Piano Books: For the age under 5, I use Music for Little Mozart by Alfred. For the age 5 to 9, I use Prep Course by Alfred, Piano Adventure Pre primer lever. My teaching experience dates back to my high school years. My piano instructor at the time appreciated my gifts and allowed me to assist with teaching beginner students. I continued to teach throughout my college years and still enjoy teaching today. I encourage regular practice and a consistent schedule. I find that consistency helps with progress and with the development of a passion for making music.
