Overview:

I am a very passionate teacher and performer in the Atlanta Area. I recently graduated from Georgia State University and I am try to grow my studio. I am a section coach at schools in the Metro Atlanta area helping out with Allstate auditions, LGPE and Solo & Ensemble competitions. I am classically trained on trombone as my primary and have learned how to teach/play most other wind instruments. Performing and teaching are my passion in life. I would love to share that knowledge and joy with you.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience starts 6 years ago when I started teaching marching band in Douglasville, Ga. I marched baritone with Spirit of Atlanta in 2013 and 2014. As time progressed, I started to teach music with local schools through Georgia State University and private connections as either a section coach or a private instructor. My private studio, with brass students, has been running for about two years now. I strive to place the student's interests first through my teaching while also covering the basics of what needs to be learned. I encourage students to practice what is assigned and participate in "free play" where the player makes noises and plays what comes to the heart. It's a fun way to explore the instrument, music and sound. I focus on instrumental and music fundamentals, having fun, and creativity.

METHODS USED

For beginner students I like to start away from books and notation and work on sound production and call and response. This is a way to get the ear working and to have some fun with potentially the most daunting part of learning an instrument. Once we have mastered that we move to writen notation and try to match what we have been doing without the book. When a student has progressed towards a good understanding of music notation I will encourage solo repertoire and other projects that are of interest of the students based upon a common goal we have set for our time together. Throughout this process, I encourage students to explore what they are interested in wether it be classical, jazz, hip-hop, audio production, composition etc.

LESSON STYLE

Teaching and learning is a two way street where the teacher learns and the learner can teach, we accomplish more working together. Each student learns and progrresses at a different rate. My teaching is catered to the student's needs and wants within my own style of encouragement and positive affirmation. We will move at the pace that is correct for each person and through goal setting and recognition of improvement create a fun skill. I want nothing but success and a passion for music for those that I work with.
