I don't want to be too easy and I don't want to be too hard. We all have life events that keep us from practicing 16 hours a day. Also, you don't want to practice 15 minutes a week either. A good balance between work and play is needed. Every week (or every lesson) the student will receive a sheet called Lesson Notes, which will account for the concepts and music covered in our lesson.I recommend that each student record lessons if possible for retention of technical tools covered. Listening to the lesson afterward will help the student better understand the concepts he/she is learning. I recommendpracticing a minimum of 30 minutes each day. For beginning students, I typically start with the Rubank Elementary Method for Flute. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for a first recital program. For intermediate to advanced students, I try to find out what the student is interested in, what they have previously worked on, and what their goals are musically. I like to focus on fundamentals such as extended scales in various patterns, etudes geared towards development of a specific technical aspect, and solo repertoire containing these fundamentals.
