I’m a Texas native, from San Antonio! I found music when I was about 11 years old, and I was completely obsessed with Bob Dylan and Bob Marley! Because I couldn’t afford lessons, I learned as much theory as I could online. After playing in some bands in high school, I applied for the music program at Trinity University! I received my BA in Music in 2018, and now, for the past two years I’ve been giving lessons to people of all ages, with a focus in music theory and audio production! Ask me anything you want to know!
I’ve been teaching people music ever since college. Tutoring was a way to help pay the bills. It also gave me the chance to digest my knowledge outside of the classroom. My teaching methods vary for each student. Not everyone learns the same way. I design my lessons to compliment my student’s learning habits! However, I always provide a blend of classical and modern theory for each student, because I think it helps students become well rounded. I also push my students to learn different styles, and realize how almost all music is connected in some way, whether its jazz, blues, classical, or whatever!!
My lessons always start with a mix of theory based info and instrument technique. I don’t use books or any of that mumbo jumbo, because everything you need to know is free online. I will help guide your exploration in music, and I will encourage you to soak in information from musical sources other than myself. I will force you to listen to the music you want to study(doesn’t sound like bad hw to me), and eventually, I will help you construct your own ideas! Because studying music is half the pie! We also gotta make it! Lastly, I will provide insight on how to record music, so you have the tools to share your idea with the world!
I’ve already stressed this, but I’m always starting at the same level my student is on. The last thing I want to so is overwhelm a beginner! Therefore, my lessons will be tailored to your learning needs and habits. I am always open to feedback, and I encourage students to stop and ask me questions! I’m very laid back. Sure, you could say I’m a hippie, but that doesn't mean I don’t have expectations. Throughout lessons we will always be checking in to see what we need to work on. And we will always set realistic goals for ourselves!
