I have been teaching musicians of all ages and levels ever since my first year of undergraduate in 2016. I have been contracted every summer since then by Summer Sonatina, a piano camp in Bennington, VT, to teach five to six 45 minute lessons a day. While I do teach at all levels, I tend to gravitate more towards serious intermediate-advanced students. For students of all ages, I start with a small book focusing on the essential elements of the instrument while teaching them something fun and recognizable. As basic techniques are acquired and musical concepts are grasped, I tailor the lesson to what the students long term goals are. I later moved to NYC where I started my professional playing career. I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. I have found that students need a regular practice time 4 to 5 times a week, even if it is only a few minutes at a time; but, hopefully, we can find music that they like to sit down and play. Ive been teaching private saxophone lessons for 3 years. Ive developed a simple method to customize each students practice routine. Students are all different and have different strengths and weaknesses. Its very important for musicians to be honest with themselves about their struggles in music.
