Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I began playing guitar when I was 8 years old. My love for music has deepened over time, and I feel it is important to share my knowledge and passion for the art with whoever is willing to learn. My earliest teachers taught me in a way that made music fun, rather than tedious, which to me is essential. I played in Jazz Band through middle school and high school, which opened my ears to another dimension of music. Read More

I am very disciplined as a musician and highly creative. I believe in balancing technique and theory with creativity. I love to help my students expand thier talents, and develop their confidence and their own sense of musical authority. I’ve already stressed this, but I’m always starting at the same level my student is on. The last thing I want to so is overwhelm a beginner! Therefore, my lessons will be tailored to your learning needs and habits. I am always open to feedback, and I encourage students to stop and ask me questions! I’m very laid back. Sure, you could say I’m a hippie, but that doesn't mean I don’t have expectations. Read More

It became a known fact when I was in college that I was a guitar player, and many people admired my skill. Some of my fellow Florida Southern Moccasins went so far as to request teaching straight from myself. I personally enjoy listening to and playing a wide variety of different kinds of music. From 60s classic rock to modern pop music, Stevie Ray Vaughan to Cage the Elephant, and even showtunes and Hip-Hop/Rap grooves, I hope to have something to offer to everyone. Read More

I typically begin with rhythm. The best melodies would not be worth anything if they aren't played with rhythm. After a student gains basic familiarity with their instrument I use a metronome (a musician's best and worst friend. Instead of playing traditional exercises, I teach students their favorite songs and techniques typical of their favorite genres. With my understanding of theory I try to incorporate a tiny bit of theory into every lesson to make an initially intimidating subject more accessible. Read More

In early 2008, I began touring nationally with a Denton-based band, and now tour nationally with several Austin-based groups. While not on the road, I play with numerous groups in Austin, write and record original music in my home studio, and teach.. I bring my extensive music industry experience into each lesson. While teaching my students their primary instruments, I also strive to make the lessons well-rounded, incorporating theory, ear training, music culture and history. Read More
