After graduating from the University of Tulsa, I began teaching at Brook Fine Arts Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I taught over 30 students a week in both voice and piano (ages 3 to 20) for over a year. I began studying the guitar in the summer of 2010 before auditioning at Middle Tennessee State University in the fall of 2011. Between 2013-2015, I began completing transcriptions for various sized guitar ensembles of Scriabin, Debussy, Ravel, Bach and Schubert piano and chamber works made possible with research grants from the Undergraduate Research Experience and Creative Activity Foundation. For younger students, I always want to make sure our lessons stay fun, while encouraging growth at the same time, so I usually let them pick a song they like, and then I assign another to assist with their musical development. For older students and adults, we really dive into technique and vocal health, with a strong emphasis on technicalities like breath support and placement, and then use that foundation to branch out into multiple genres. For beginning younger students I begin by working a very short time with parents to assure them their children are in a positive learning environment. Parents of small children are encouraged to attend each lesson with their child. The core principles of musicality, breathing, and perspective are taught. The next step is sound and movement.
