I have been teaching guitar lessons for over ten years. I have been playing in professional bands that tour all over Oklahoma and surrounding states for over 6 years. I play solo performances regularly for a variety of social events. My students have gone on to pursue degrees in music and play in successful bands. I base my teaching out of the Schroeder Violoncello Methods for all ages along with the Schroeder 170 cello studes. Along with that I pick pieces that the student will find enjoyable as a means to keep them encouraged. I understand that many people take voice lessons recreationally, and that not everyone trains like a college student. I do, however, encourage all my students not to sell themselves short and set high standards for themselves. Students need opportunity to play along with more experience performers and I seek out every chance to insert my students into this role. I have secured opportunities for students to be the opening act for Texas country star Jolie Holiday. Students of all ages will work out of a technique/method book. Younger students will use Walter Beeler's Method for Cornet/Trumpet, more advanced students will play from Arban's. I emphasize a "classical" approach, especially with younger students to solidify their skills, encouraging intersted students to begin including jazz improvisation into their studies as their skills advance. We work on tone production, helping the student improve in this area through attention to breathing, embouchure, articulation, long tones, lip flexibilities, scales, etc. Read More

I emphasize reading, because it gives each student the tools to learn independently and unlocks worlds of information. If a younger student aspires to play in school bands, this knowledge will equip him or her to this end and place the student ahead of his or her peers. I also emphasize feel, because this goes way beyond the mere reproducing of written notes into the very heart of music. I teach students how to analyze and map songs, so they may take those tools forward and utilize critical listening skills. Read More

My teaching experience began in 2006. During my college years I taught trombone to fellow students and later as a college instructor and high school band director, taught young adults. My experience as an elementary school teacher has rewarded me with skills to work with younger children. I now work with seasoned musicians as a mentor and coach. I have fun too.
