I have not yet started my teaching career but I am super excited to start gaining experience with all of you! I have taken a flute pedagogy class at my undergraduate, Gettysburg College and a woodwind and brass method class during my graduate studies at The Longy School of Music. I have much more experience performing and participating in summer flute masterclasses. I do hope to gain professional music performance experience by being in an orchestra, opera, or ballet, doing chamber music, and organizing small solo concerts. Read More

I have russian method way to teach. I was taught like this when I was young. Basics of music theory, names, titles, vocabulary. Then i teach first technical excersises. Once we master it we begin simple pieces to apply technique. Then we progress to more complex playing. And pick harder pieces to play. After 25 years of study I still practice my excersices daily. I began teaching when I was 18. My piano teacher taught me how to teach and trained me. My favorite thing about teaching has always been that moment when a student finally “gets” something he/she has been working on. I also love the challenge of individualizing my lessons to fit each students interests and abilities. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace and is learning things that interest them on a fundamental level. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. As a young child, I was a music nerd, practicing all the time, listening all the time... until practicing started to feel like work and music got competitive. I stopped playing for several years and even when I returned to cello, studying music in college made it feel like I was doing it for all the wrong reasons. I began teaching music at the age of sixteen, teaching students not much younger than me about a wide variety of subjects like music theory, rock electric bass, composition, classical upright bass, and jazz improvisation. While still in high school I was the assistant conductor for my schools string orchestra and ran a small jazz ensemble at the Richmond Youth Jazz Guild. Since coming to college I have continued to teach students in Philadelphia as well as in Amsterdam for a brief time, giving lessons on avant-garde improvisation and double bass technique. Read More
