I’m an passionate and dedicated musician and instructor. I have study with Jazz Legends such as Billy Hart and Victor Lewis and R&B veterans such as Rashid Williams and Classical Legends like Mike Roseman. I have an extensive knowledge of the basics, patterns from different regions of the world and exercises that will challenge and develop you at any level. My lessons are fun and there nuggets of wisdom added to help your everyday life. I can help you get ready for a small or large performance or set you up for college auditions or professional auditions. Looking forward to hearing from you!
I have taught as long as I played which is 20years. I have taught at camps such as stokes forest music camp, jazz house kids and jazz connections to name a few as lead drum instructor. I have taught drum and group combo lessons. I have taught young adults gearing up for college and professional tours. I am looking to work with someone dedicated to seeing there full potential and working hard. I have taught for a number of afterschool programs and currently I teach full time music at Computer Science Highschool in the Bronx.
I begin with building a strong foundation with the basics; -counting -internalizing the tempo with your feet -isolating limbs -basic grooves We then graduate to novice material; -performing songs with hits and breaks and form -reading lead sheets and counting -internalizing tempo with grooves -3/4 meter -blues/shuffle/swing patterns For intermediate; - we learn 4-way coordination -review reading skills from books such as stick control, syncopation and and 23 drum rudiment etudes -we will learn three camps -we will work on advance songs with hits and develop comping and soloing Advanced; -we will learn the rudiments ritual -we will learn to ready drum sheet music - we will learn jazz Melodies and common improvisation for jazz and R&b shows -we will learn odd time meters, metric modulation and imposition - we learn advanced grooves from different regions
Teaching is a joy and pleasure. I am most excited when we are progressing in our growth and skill sets. I want to make sure you are having fun, finding it useful and setting yourself up to play whatever style or sound you dream of! I want to make sure you have the theoretical knowledge, strength, technical ability, dexterity, expanded song knowledge and musical terminology to navigate and musical setting.
