Reading is my main way of getting things into perspective. I originally learned by ear, it paid off for live situation but, reading is where I found the most connection. Once that is accomplished the ear and the mind will be in tune. I also do enjoy listening to the student for their wants and needs. Read More

When I was growing up beginning piano lessons books were limited. I used the familiar John Thompson series that was quite good. I typically use the Alfred method, although I still like John Thompson, and I also like the Faber method. For adults, I like to use the Alfred books that are specifically for them. Some adults took piano lessons as children and want to take lessons again. I try to find out what he or she is interested in and go from there. Read More

I absolutely love teaching the piano. I've taught kindergarten level students all the way up to 72 year olds. I've been teaching the piano for 7 years. During this time I've taught over 271 students how to play the piano, and over 500 students music theory. It's my goal to make sure that you reach the level of success on the piano that you desire. In fact, it was for this purpose that I was hired by a music school. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I love working with younger students because it's important to remind them of the importance of exercising your vocal chords properly. I also discuss the importance of eating the right healthy foods to maintain a healthy voice and lifestyle. I often invite the students to my events to encourage them to continue to be disciplined and learn all they can while they're young. I keep the methods basic so the students can always remember a good foundation for maintaining a healthy voice. Read More

My teaching experience goes back to after college days, as I began teaching private lessons two years ago, and have been consistently teaching in the classroom and at home for 4 years. I always encourage regular practice on a consistent basis because its the only way to progress and be great. I've found that helping students learn their interested genre makes them stay passionate about piano and motivate them to practice and learn more. Read More

All of the skills that I teach are based upon a lifetime of performing. I have been singing since I joined choir in 4th grade and began playing guitar at 14. I started teaching after I finished my undergrad, but my skills were greatly enhanced when I did my Master's degree. I was employed by FSU to teach while I was in my Master's, and I had a rotating studio of 10-14 college age musicians who I met with on a weekly basis. Read More
Instruments: Drums
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with rudiments on a snare drum before approaching a drum kit. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce them to a small basic drum kit set up using only the snare, hi hat, and kick drum. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
