Instruments: Flute Piccolo

No matter the age of the student, I am a firm believer in the practice of fundamentals. I incorporate these by creating my own exercises for students according to their needs, and then applying these concepts to etudes and solo repertoire. While my main goal is to help improve the student's flute and musicianship skills, I also aim to nurture a life-long love of music. Classical music isn't for everyone, and I often play duets, soundtrack music, and broadway music with my students. Read More

There are many acceptable method books for beginning students, however, I have found that if a student gets relatively comfortable on their instrument before trying to decipher a grand staff, they seem to enjoy the learning experience more. The hardest part of teaching music, in my opinion, is the educational content that isn't in a method book. Finding someone who can play your instrument better than you can often be more inspirational than finding a new piece that is slightly out of your comfort zone or using a method book that, at the end of the day, is supposed to help a student reach the ability level of the person the student aspires to be. I have had the privileged of working with many successful musicians. After studying the way they taught me and other students, I feel that the best lesson plans are ones that are catered to the individual student. It is important to know what the student wants to accomplish, then build a lesson plan from there. For a beginning student, we start with essential fundamentals, for a more advanced student, I would guide my instruction based on the student goals. Read More

Instruments: Piano Synthesizer

My teaching experience spans over the course of the past5 years, as I began teaching when I was in college, and since then have branched out to teaching students of all ages in both my recording studio and church. I encourage students to practice on a regular basis, especially with the younger students, as it aids in the student's progress, growth and passion for playing the piano. My job is to ensure that the lesson is an experience that is rewarding, memorable and most of all, fun. Read More

I'm a passionate and experienced musician who has been fortunate to see many aspects of the music world. These include studying classical guitar in a high school conservatory at UNC School of the Arts, collaborating with modern dance companies, and film makers. I'm also a founding member of the alternative rock group Salem Lake which I currently sing and play electric guitar for. Read More

Instruments: Trumpet Euphonium

For beginner students, I take an individual approach because I've learned that there's no one way to teach multiple students. Each child is different so with careful evaluation of their specific needs and abilities, I decide on which approach would best fit that student. I love to start out by working on posture and embouchure. Those 2 are very important because younger children tend to be a little distracted in those areas. Read More

Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Mallet Percussion

It's important to cultivate a student's musical knowledge by building upon their current foundation. Similar to the way children learn a language, music students of all ages should start by listening and singing/playing before learning to read and even write. Combining this natural approach with a focus on how and why to develop good technique helps students get the results they're looking for. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
