Instruments: Piano Voice
My method is to incorporate proper technique and fingering, and though reading music is important, i also put emphasis on hearing what your playing and also understanding it theoretically. This way students will be well-rounded and be able to understand what they are playing from an audio and theoretical stance, rather than just being told what to play by the notes on the sheet music. What this does is it allows the student to become independent so that they don't have to rely on music and a teacher to be able to play or pick-up songs they desire to play. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Euphonium
I have experience teaching students of all ages and ability levels in various settings. I have tons of performance experience performing in professional opera pits, orchestras accompanying premier vocal artists, subbing in regional orchestras, and even playing on albums for new classical artists. My true passion is sharing my experiences and pedagogy expertise to bring out the best in talented students. Additionally, I performed in many trombone quartets, trombone choirs, and other various brass ensembles and that sense of community is something I aim to bring to my students. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I believe EVERYONE has the ability to sing. Some voices will go on to do big things, and some will help to build confidence in their everyday lives. I grew up with loving and compassionate teachers and family members. It's my job as a human being to offer that same level of respect and compassion. Students are encouraged to set their own goals. I do NOT believe it demanding students to practice on a schedule I create. Types of students that have represented my studio in the past: * Classical Singers * Musical Theatre Performers (professional) * Community Theatre Performers * Pageant Contestants * KARAOKE Singers (MANY contest winners) * High School Students preparing for college programs and auditions (CAP-22, USC, NYU, Boston Conservatory, Carnegie Mellon, among others) * Retirees I feel that what makes me a fantastic option as a teacher is my equal love for the art of singing and performance AND for teaching, as well. My teaching style is flexible. For beginners, I will teach them all basic technic and reading skills. I believe in learning music by the ability of reading the music. Therefore, to have good reading skill is essential to all my students. Even if the students do not read music fluently, I will emphasize my teaching in improving them to read music. All my students will have good music sight reading eventually. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Ukulele
My methods of teaching cater to the students interests and strengths. I use material and songs that the students want to learn. I draw the learning from these pieces of art. I also use Suzuki, Hal Leonard and Bastien piano materials. My specialty is popular, sacred, arias, jazz and folk music. I create diversity in my lessons and keep them fun and exciting. In my lessons, I teach body mechanics, proper vocal warm ups as well as piano exercises and drills. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
I used to use the Suzuki method but mostly I used formal classical method. Although, I always fit my lessons depending of each student's needs and/or requests. Personally I like the classical method because I also teach my students music theory if needed as well as historical facts to understand the music better. I have also thaught the El Sistema method from Venezuela which basically teaches students the feeling of playing music phisically. Read More
Instruments: Piano Oboe
During the lesson, besides verbal explanation, I demonstrate by playing and ask students if they can hear the difference. I may use metaphor, abstract theory, cards, body movements depend on each individual. Once students overcome a challenge, students may acknowledge accomplishment and gain desire to progress. After each lesson, I would clearly tell my students my expectation for the next lesson. Students and I would also set the goals together for the next lesson. Read More
