I like to create very clear imagery that builds over time. The voice is not something we can see or touch, so I often joke that singing is about learning Jedi mind tricks that help us achieve a healthy technique. I like to incorporate theory/musicianship and some piano into my lessons to create a well rounded understanding of singing as a musician. I strive to set realistic goals and encourage my students to set realistic goals for themselves! This gives them an eagerness to learn because it is within their grasp. For example, If someone has a goal to be on american idol one day, I will have him/ her set a smaller goal to get there such as breath support or intonation. I began teaching piano my sophomore year of college. During my college career, I built up a studio of nearly 20 students, tutored college-level piano courses, and worked as a Teacher's Assistant in Sight Singing and Aural Training. Since then, I taught for two years at a Summer Music Conservatory in Texas, led week-long keyboard intensive seminars throughout Western Kenya, and most recently, taught at the nation's largest piano conservatory. I am a passionate trumpet stylist, composer and instructor who loves teaching and working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated from Xavier University in 1993 with a Libral Arts Bachelor with a focus in trumpet performance. Performing in my birth place New Orleans has been the greatest experience of my musical career.
