Most of my students use Alfred's Piano Course. After just a few lessons, we add in additional books and songs to expose the student to as much music as possible. I believe that the more music a student is exposed to, the better a musician he or she becomes. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments fuel students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Depending on my student's familiarity with their instrument, my approach to their lessons will differ accordingly. I thoroughly believe in teaching each student with a unique approach, one that caters both to their learning style and how comfortable they are playing in front of others.
