For beginning students who are children, I typically start with breathing and vocal exercise. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals and are introduced to the Belcanto technique, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate, for their first recital performance or audition. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guild my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging, fun, productive and fruitful, no matter their ability level. Like many singers, I grew up with a love of music. I began singing in church choirs and honor choirs across the country at the age of 8 and started voice lessons at the age of 11. I was in many musicals throughout my teen years and decided to attend college to study opera at Louisiana State University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance in 2012. Hi! I'm Maeve. I am a professional soprano with 13 years of instruction and 4 years of paid experience as a performer under my belt. Since 2011, I have attended voice programs at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Brevard Music Center, and VOICExperience, and I regularly work in churches and sing weddings. I recently graduated from the University of Kentucky, where I studied with Dr. Dennis Bender. The ensemble also holds annual collaborations with the Louisville Orchestra for performances of Handel's Messiah as well as large choral orchestral works combined with the University of Louisville Collegiate Chorale and selected members from the community and high school students from around the city. I am also singing at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Louisville as one of the cantors and Bass section leader, occasionally playing the clarinet when needed. Read More
