Instruments: Drums
I have three main books I use; these are my drum 'bibles'. Progressive Steps to Syncopation by Ted Reed, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer by George Lawrence, and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin. I like to teach fundamentals first, providing a strong basis with which to expand your repetoire. Then I like to emphasize song work. The best part of drumming in my opinion is playing with other instruments, and in addition to playing with recorded music, I encourage my students to find other musicians to practice and even perform with. Instruments: Piano Voice
I love to see my students enjoy learning music and gain confidence as they realize their musical potential. This can only be accomplished in a safe and healthy environment where my students are able to express themselves without fear of rejection or judgement. At the first voice lesson, I have my students list their musical goals and what they hope to achieve. Through positive affirmation, I am able to help them reach their goals and develop a passion for music. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
My biggest goal in teaching is to help students learn how to enjoy music and approach music from a different perspective. Once a semester when teaching private students, I like to have them pick out their favorite pop song and I'll arrange it for them to play with me in a duet. Often times, when studying to perfect everything it is good to remember why music is fun! But aside from that one example, I like teach students to play their instrument--not let it play them. Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I base my materials depending on who my student is, what level they are at, their interests, and their goals. We will focus on building a proper foundation and every aspect of music making including posture, embouchure, breath support, articulation, phrasing, intonation, performances, and more. Every student will have lessons directly tailored toward their needs. I usually begin with a methods book such as the Rubank Elementary Methods, scales, and a solo matching ability level. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I am a friendly, calm teacher which is my style. I motivate my students a lot but do it in a positive way. All my students understand that they ultimately decide whether not they will have success or not, no one else. It is my job to guide you and to give you advice, but in the end the student must be the one who does the work. Students who think in this way usually do have the most success. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
After graduating high school I relocated to the Austin, Texas area. I have performed as a section violinist with Round Rock Symphony, Victoria Symphony, Temple Symphony, Laredo Philharmonic, Austin Civic Orchestra, and Gilbert and Sullivan Austin. From 2014 to 2015, I was a violinist of the Modus Novus String Quartet, a new music ensemble formed with graduates of the Berklee College of Music. Other notable performances include performing as a member of Jeff Williams Freelance Orchestra and alongside Video Game Orchestra at RTX 2015 and 2016 that included songs from Rooster Teeths hit web series Red Vs. Instruments: Violin Music
Beginning violin is important. I use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements to help teach the functionality and basic building blocks of playing the violin. Moving forward, the best introduction into violin music itself is the Suzuki Violin School volume set. Each book helps students through various levels during their beginner phase. These pieces not only serve as educational material but also as solo repertoire for beginners in recitals. As students learn these methods, I start to tailor lessons suitable for them, allowing them to choose what they desire to play, or something that they would be eager or excited to play. Read More
