I give a very good foundational approach to the learning experience. For example, I teach students how to find the notes on the guitar and the bass. From there on the guitar, I teach the open string chords. On the bass, I give fingering exercises and patterns to work on. With the chords, we look at simple songs to play. I have a growth mindset, which means that you don't have to be born with a natural ability to do this. Anyone can learn if they have a great teacher. For beginning students I start with the Suzuki cello books, and teach books 1 to 5. I reinforce the Suzuki with pop/ non-classical songs, depending on the student's interest. After Suzuki 5, which is well into the intermediate level, I introduce individual works (small concerto's, sonatas, etc.) and cater them towards the student's ability and interest. For younger or beginner students, I reinforce the Suzuki books with sight-reading, and as they progress, I add in etude studies.  Read More

I have been studying piano since the age of 11 as a student of Sofya Zamanskaya of the Kiev Conservatory, Julia Hawkins of the New England Conservatory and the international concert pianist Baekyu Kim, who I am currently taking master classes with. I have been teaching piano for more than 10 years, which I love doing as an extremely patient and passionate instructor. I am a strong believer in listening before you play. When it comes to younger students this can be challenging, yet also rewarding. Younger students require a lot of demonstration as far as how to hold and position your fingers. It is a lot of muscle memory, and most new students need proper technique to get them to enjoy their instrument. I find this takes patients. I create my own lesson plans specific to the students need and goals. There are core elements to my teaching that are constantly enforced, including my level of importance placed on rhythm and the aural tradition of music. Singing melodies, clapping rhythms and drum parts. Listening to music and talking and a gentle musical analysis of what we are hearing.
