In regards to teaching style, I am persistant with practice, while understanding of ability. This is a method that is applied by setting goals and following a direction that introduces and builds upon ideas, all while taking the student's progress and aptitude into account. I often try to balance out the harder, sometimes tedious work of technique and theory with songs that the student requests or shows interest in playing. Read More

For beginning students on instruments, I begin with a method book, usually Hal Leonard Essential Elements for Guitar and Ukulele, and Piano Discoveries for young beginning pianists, and Piano Adventures for older beginning pianists. From there, I follow my students' interests. For voice, we begin with breathing techniques and vocalizing, and then follow the student's interests from there. Read More

I have taught in private studios, students' homes, and grade school and university settings. Despite the various settings, my teaching philosophy does not change. I encourage regular, consistent practice of all my students, because I want to see them achieve their goals. As much as I enjoy teaching Classical music for technique, I love working on pieces my student's want to learn - whatever the genre! Music is an art to be shared, so I encourage my students to participate in competitions and recitals. Read More

As of May 2018, I am a graduate of Millersville University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. I fell in love with music at a young age, and I fell in love with teaching when I was in high school. When I attended college, I realized how much I loved learning to play expressively as a soloist, as well as in various ensembles. I've been involved with concert bands, wind ensembles, marching bands, orchestras, musical pit orchestras, and flute choirs. Read More

My approach to playing and teaching music is to never limit your options! Providing a well-rounded understanding of your instrument and its capacity to create art that you enjoy is first and foremost. When I began taking lessons, I put in time to learn technique, scales, arpeggios, but also had a teacher help me explore learning songs from recordings, aural transcriptions that transfer to your instrument. This not only helped me stay interested in music, but also broadened my taste in music, period! Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
I am very flexible when it comes to method books. I try and work with any materials that may be required by the student's school. For older students, I tend to use standard method books such as Rose, Klose, Polatscheck, Baerman and a few others based on the student's needs. I also have many exercises that dont require books. I often play in lessons or bring recordings to offer an example. Read More
