I started teaching in high school, with my very own private students, and coached non-music major ensembles during my undergraduate degree in addition to receiving pedagogy training. As many performers do, I began as a reluctant teacher, but quickly realized that teaching is extremely rewarding and fun! I make sure that the students are enjoying the lessons while pushing them to play as well as they can. In 2013, I graduated from Lawrence University with a Bachleor of Music in Double Bass Performance (with a Jazz Emphasis). While at Lawrence I studied bass with Mark Urness, jazz improvisation with Bill Carrothers and Jose Encarnacion, and compostition with Fred Sturm. Because I accept children as young as 3, my methods vary quite drastically. I also work with children who have learning disabilities, so I like to cater my lessons to the needs of the student. I first started teaching piano and flute/piccolo back when I was in high school. When I started, I mainly focused on helping my fellow students prepare for performances and competitions. When I was in college, I was offered a temporary teaching position to teach piano at Allegro Music Academy (Lemont, IL) and I was able to work with children of all ages and playing levels. Music is unlike any other extra curricular activity in the lives of young ones. Through the arts, a teacher is able to impose the education of feeling.
