Well work on rock, pop, funk, jazz, RB, blues, classical/concert percussion, marching band and much more! Through the exploration of different styles well learn the foundational techniques, rudiments, styles and feels that are integral to every education in drums. My goal is to help my students not only become fluent in the language of music so that they can pursue music as an activity throughout their lives, whether as professionals or amateurs, but also to develop physically and mentally healthy, positive approaches to their practicing and performing. This is a central instrument to the percussion family and most techniques used on other percussion instruments are based on sound snare drum technique.  I like the Alfred Drum Method book for students just starting out regardless of age as the ability to read and understand written music is important no matter what stylistic path one follows. I began teaching cello while in high school, serving as a Teaching Assistant to my own teacher and mentor, Olga Ruvinov. I assisted her younger students (ages 6-14) in employing effective practice methods to overcome difficult technical concepts encountered in their main lessons. Having the opportunity to teach under the guidance of an experienced pedagogue was instrumental to my development as a musician and inspired a love of teaching from a very young age. Read More

  I can teach for precision to support the student’s goal of strictly solo performance, and I can teach for more of an open model in which the student eventually creates original music or wants to play in a band.   Is playing the synthesizer a goal for the student? If so, I would like to consider having split lessons after some basic piano theory and application are acquired. I have played a couple of different acoustic instruments over my music career, and this has assisted my synth skills to transfer seamlessly to band situations in which brass and strings were needed but the talent or skill was not readily available—a synth musician can step right in and deliver the right mix that is needed!
