My teaching experience varies for each of the instruments I instruct. I began teaching private lessons for guitar in 2004. My voice instruction began in 2009, and the rest of the listed instruments I began to teach in 2012. I believe consistent daily practice is essential for improvement in my students, and encourage my students to log their practice time. In the words of my professor Todd Woodbury, "You do not become a master from what you do within these lessons. Read More
Instruments: Cello
I am the cello professor at George Fox University and have a lively Suzuki Studio in West Linn, OR. I began teaching cello in high school in California. I have taught at the college level as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Washington where I taught undergraduate non-majors and string technique classes. I have also held a position as a professor at Edmonds Community College. I love teaching young cellists and was a teacher for several years with Seattle Music Partners, a free after-school music program for elementary and middle school string students. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
I have been teaching privately part time for the past 4 years working with students in grades K-12. My main goal in lessons is for my students to not only succeed at a new skill once, but to be confident in their ability to repeat their success in practice at home and at our next lessons. I encourage positive feedback and positive "self-talk" as a means of boosting self-efficacy. I think an important part of learning is goal setting and outlining specific, achievable steps to reach that goal so that progress can be tracked and the process of learning can become less ambiguous. For just about any instrument, a key approach of mine is to teach students how to play the songs they love - and then the musical building blocks that make up said songs. Then, I teach the rudiments, patterns, and music theory behind those building blocks, and teach the students to be able to figure this all out on their own in the future through ear-training. I tend to like the Essential Elements series for band instruments, the Alfred books for piano and guitar, the Real Book for a wide variety of jazz repertoire. Read More

I started violin lessons at age 7, after 2 years of begging my mom! I can still remember that blustery Saturday morning in November when I had my first lesson, and since then, I have learned so much. I joined the studio orchestra after just a year of lessons, then began teacher training and luthier (violin repair) classes in high school. I took a break from teaching while getting my bachelor's degree, but continued while I got my master's. Read More

Upon meeting a student for the first time I like to hear from them about where their interests lie, what their goals are, and what they already know about their instrument and music in general. Lessons are custom-tailored based on these facts. I like attempting to expand on their interests and introduce them to music they may not be aware of but I think they'll love. My favorite part is when they light up upon hearing something really cool for the first time! Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
I am a mostly rock performing saxophonist based out of Bellevue, WA. I grew up and got most of my education in music here in Bellevue before attending, and subsequently graduating from, the George Washington University in 2018. Since then I have spent most of my time traveling up and down the east coast with the rock group Bencoolen. Although most of my formal training has been in jazz or classical music, this group has allowed me to vastly broaden my horizons and adapt certain tone qualities and other techniques to fit a more rock style.
