This, too, varies based on the individual student. I pride myself on my flexibility, and always try to run my lessons based on what best fits the student's personality and learning style. I always, however, provide a thorough and comprehensive music educationI want my students to understand the music they're learning, not just learn how to play their instrument. And most importantly, I strive to maintain a patient, encouraging learning environment. Read More

Nothing makes me happier than a satisifed student who can play better than I could at their age! Everyone has different expectations; some want to become proficient, while others want to become virtuosos, and I frame my lessons around the student's goals. The student is never talked down to or berated, and always encouraged; music is hard enough without negative comments. I encourage students to listen, listen, and listen some more to music, and also to read as much as they can about music. Read More

Instruments: Piano Violin Viola

I'm well trained in the Suzuki repertoire and philosophies, however I teach a combination of traditional methods and also have the ability to exclude one or the other. For beginners and young children, I teach note reading simultaneously but separately from the applied side of playing. Holding the violin and bow, for example, are very challenging and require time to focus on them individually. Note reading is done on the side and later these aspects merge so that kids are eventually learning new pieces by reading the music directly. Read More

I approach music education in a practical way, what I mean with this is that I teach songs that my students like so they enjoy what they are learning. I encourage them to listen different kinds of music too so they can understand what music really is about. For Beginners and Intermediate students, I teach them songs that the want to learn and then I relate this songs to music theory, I teach them how to practice and how to learn technical parts of the instruments from the songs that they like. Instruments: Cello

I began teaching cello lessons sophomore year in high school and am excited to continue teaching in college. I like to focus not only on the technical aspects of cello playing, but endeavor to make the lessons enjoyable, especially for the younger students. I've had the pleasure of having many students with a wide range of skill levels, social skills, and personality, and have been successful at tailoring my lessons and teaching style to their needs. I am a graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where I received a Bachelors of Music in Flute Performance and a Minor in Art History in May 2018. While at IU, I played in many ensembles focusing on chamber music, and I studied under Kathryn Lukas. I am originally from Marietta, Georgia, where I studied with Christina Smith. I love all types of music, and in my free time, I listen to a lot of classical music but mainly Broadway shows. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice Drums

The most important part of a music instructors' job is to instill the principle that music is FUN! I hate when I hear people say that they studied piano when they were young, but their instructor made them hate it, for one reason or another. Just as importantly, I want to show that while anyone can learn to become a great musician, it doesn't come without the work. I feel that music study can be a great way to impart good habits of setting goals, and building and developing yourself to be something greater. Read More
