This pedagogy uses the Suzuki repertoire but can also be used with other books. The Suzuki (Japanese) method is one of the most popular in the US. This method establishes strong musical and technical fundamentals. Other methods lead to similar results and can be just as enjoyable and interesting. Some examples are Robert Trorys (British) books or The Sassmannhaus Tradition (German). Also I try to understand their objective of learning music, what they wish to gain. We will listen to various styles of music in order to see the natural inclination and joy that the student possesses. Each summer I volunteer at my local community music camp where I I teach a wide of variety of students who are touching an instrument for the very first time and students who simply want to improve on their skills. For beginning guitar students depending on age, I use two books: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, and the FJH Young Beginner Guitar Method. For more advanced students, I use he Berklee College of Music books. We begin with simple finger exercises to build finger strength. From there, first position chords, strumming patterns. Songs are used to teach different techniques of rhythm, melody and harmony. Listening to music of the specific song that is being learned, takes part in the lessons. Read More
