       I have taught music since 1994, when I was in college. What was at first a part time job blossomed into a full time job when local music stores and luthiers began recommending me. I have a strong roster of about 30 students, and maintain it mostly through word of mouth and recommendations. I teach out of my private studio, as well as people's homes. For my methods, I use a variety of books and create a diet of exercises and pieces that will build on fundamentals - from open strings, to scales and etudes like Schradieck, Kreutzer to pieces from the Suzuki Method as well as other options such as Nardini Concerto in b minor or Haydn Concerto in G Major. The method I use is scaffolding from the very small building blocks of technique and lead up to a mastery of each piece assigned. Read More

I usually start my violin students with Essential Elements books, and draw some technical points of beginning lessons from Suzuki method.  I like to start students on a real piece of music as soon as possible so they can get a sense of accomplishment sooner than later. For adults, I am more flexible and will ask what it is they would like to learn, then I will use many of the same beginning techniques tailored for their own musical goals. Read More
