For piano I prefer the Faber series. I like to include scales, sight-reading, and repertoire of the students choosing and of my suggestion. For Voice I like to cover the anatomical fundamentals (posture, breath, phonation, and depending on age), in the first lesson, and each lesson includes a warm-up as well as at least one piece of repertoire of the students choosing. For guitar I teach note reading as well as tablature, but we mostly work from tablature, unless the student is studying classical. Read More

For young students starting piano lessons for the first time, I recommend either Bastien or Faber's piano Adventure method books. My older students love Alfred's books. These method books, in my opinion, have motivating pieces and give the students a solid foundation in theory and scales. I also use supplementary materials such as Dozen a Day, Czerny, Kabalevskiy. For students of all ages, I stress that the ears are the most important part of playing or listening to music. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2019, I graduated from New England Conservatory with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cello Performance. Moreover, I started to learn piano when I was five, and keep taking lesson throughout my musical career. Even though I chose Cello as my major, I did take piano lesson during my four years at NEC. My methods of choice for instruction are many due to the amount of instruments that I teach and the many levels of mastery within each concentration. For most woodwinds I begin with the Rubank family of methods and duet books. I favor many of the Berklee press books for music theory, voice, keyboards, genre studies, guitar, bass, composition, ear training, harmony and arranging. The Schirmer library of classical piano pieces is often used. Read More

I typically start with the Piano Adventures series with my beginner students who are children. I also introduce songs they are familiar with alongside seasonal or festival music to make the lessons more engaging and boost their interest in learning. For intermediate students, I add materials such as exercises from Hanon or Czerny to develop stronger technique. I pair these with music by various composers so that, while building the foundation of piano playing, my students explore different styles of music. Read More

Usually involves forcing student to use a metronome, teaching the student to slow down when a piece is too difficulta tempo, and making sure the student is addressing problem areas of a piece rather than starting at the beginning every time. Last 10 min.: Improvisation. This covers a broad range of subject matter. It might involve me playing something like chords while the student improvises. This is a chance for me to try and hear the student's natural musical voice. Read More

For beginners, especially younger players, I believe it is best to start with simple pieces to build security. For this I usually try to pick fairly well known melodies that the student likely has in their head already, such as 'Ode to Joy' or 'Jingle-Bells'. By starting with tunes the student already knows, I believe that the learning process becomes much more intuitive. For teens/adults I encourage the student to find out what the students interests/goals are and adjust my lesson accordingly. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
