My teaching experience goes back as far as high school when I started volunteering to teach violin lessons to younger students. In my college years, I taught as part of Oberlin Conservatory's secondary lessons program in addition to teaching members of the Oberlin community of different ages and levels. Currently, I maintain private studios in multiple locations as an addition to my Musika students. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Business/Management (principal instruments: violin and voice). My career in the music industry has ranged from artist management, record labels, and recording studio management all while teaching violin and voice in my spare time. For beginner piano students, I have found the Faber Piano Adventures books to be quite successful. For other lessons, I try to tailor them to each student and find materials that fit with their unique music goals. I have drawn from a variety of music resources, as well as my own knowledge, to help students learn through their own unique way of thinking. I believe it is important to build off of the skills that students already have, and to find ways to support them as they grow in other areas. Read More

Also performing in concerts gives them goals to work for so I try to have my students to perform at some assisted living places and more several times a year and the more they perform usually the better they improve. It can be encouraging to see that others make mistakes too and that noone is perfect. I like students to learn how to read as soon as they can, but I honor the suzuki idea that it is good to learn to play the first few pieces by ear so listening does not get lost in learning to read. Every time I teach a student, I learn something new about people and my instrument. I end up learning right along with them, and I love it! if you are starting from ground zero, I typically like to start with the Suzuki method books, and learning by ear. Learning good techniques and is of the utmost importance at this stage! Once you as a student are more comfortable with the violin, then I like to branch out and incorporate songs and techniques that you'd like to learn, which can be anything that is within your skill set. I always begin lessons with some form of warm up to focus on beauty in tone and then I follow that with exercises that build technique. I am happy to work with students with whatever method book they are currently using but I am also happy to suggest method books and literature that I feel could further guide their growth. I began teaching Piano and Violin at the age of 15 to people between the ages of 4 to 65. This eventually moved on to classroom settings for strings and Chorus. One thing Ive learned from all this time is that people want to be able to actually PLAY and have FUN.
