For beginning students, I teach them the basics first, and then simple and fun pieces that they can master.  For intermediate students, I start them on method books and more advanced techniques.  With advanced students, I help them refine their playing and personalize each piece that they learn. This makes it far more enjoyable for The student, as well as more relevant. I have been teaching children of late, so I start with basic skills of holding the instrument and learning about the instrument and the strings notes. I usually use one of Hal Leonard books for a true reference point of fundementals. After that I begin to learn what music the student is intersted in and guitde my instruction accordingly and of course to maintain that level of fun in each lesson. Read More
