BM, Percussion Performance (in progress)
Hello! I am a passionate, Miami based percussionist with a background in musical theatre. I can play all sorts of other instruments as well, such as piano and saxophone, however drum set and hand percussion and mallet percussion is my main set of instruments. I can teach beginner guitar, as well as anything else you're looking for, JUST ASK! I was born and raised in Miami Florida and know the streets well. When a lesson is planned, I shall arrive on time and maintain a punctual attitude. I have a passion for education and the growth of new musicians!
I have both worked independently as an instructor and in a conservatory. My personal history includes many personal projects as well as small ensembles with other musicians from Miami Dade. I was part of the percussionists in the Wind symphony directed by Brian Neal. The next year, the same wind symphony was being conducted by a Ms. Barnes. I started playing drum set in 2008, and have been constantly looking for ways to improve my playing ever since, either through independent study or with an instructor, as both methods are equally important. Teaching is an excellent way for me not only to improve the lives of my students and bring up their musical skill, but it's never a bad idea to go over the basics! I am a motivated teacher and plan on taking on students who share my drive and determination!
For children and other beginners, I would start our lessons by encoding the basic function of music theory application of a drum pad. This will allow stick control and muscle memory to begin developing. As the beginner becomes more of a novice, I will introduce simple and repetitive songs and go over them as whole pieces. Those who are experienced in percussion, I will have them show me all of the rudiments they know, any complete pieces they have memorized, and have 5 minutes of improvisation. When I have seen the technique and the music style they are leaning towards, I will make a personal lesson plan and work closely to make their playing perfect. Students are not robots or cookie cutters, they are all different so expect a bit of a variation based on this individuality!
Seeing a student take on a challenging piece is more rewarding to me than anything. When I see a student struggling, I will offer the techniques that I would typically use, however there is no ONE right way to do everything. I encourage independent learning and going beyond the lesson. IF A STUDENT ONLY IS PRACTICING WHILE IN THE LESSON, WE CANNOT ADVANCE AS QUICKLY AS I PLAN. This will result in repeating lessons, which I avoid at all costs. Nothing I teach is difficult. There are only difficult students who do not practice!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
