Once the student becomes comfortable with these methods we can work in music that they are playing in a school ensemble. If they are not yet to that level we work slowly to get them there. If they are not in a school ensemble I help meet them at whatever environment they are in. This can include private students who already play professionally. This can also include Music teachers who teach a band program and are not string or brass players, but are woodwind, percussion or vocal teachers and just want to improve their skills for their own reasons. For younger beginning student I prefer to use Essential Elements for a good foundation. For older beginners I prefer the Rubank Method. Once the basics are grasped I add in level appropriate solo music. As the students progress I move either into the Rubank Method for younger students or the Trevor Wye method for the older students. Work on picking and speed and most importantly touch and feel. Learn to play in rhythm, with a metronome. Work on Finger picking as well, learn to use all 5 fingers on your right hand. or use the pick and 3 fingers, with me you WILL use your pinky or little finger, on both hands.
