For beginning students who are children, I usually use the Alfred Music Piano Methods series, and include music theory and ear training as a part of the curriculum. Once students have grasped the fundamentals, I will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for receital performances to encourage and motivate their learning. Since graduating from college, I have continued with my private studio in additional to expanding my work with local public schools and youth choirs. I also hold a Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland. For young voice students, I usually start them off with the Giant Book of Childrens Vocal Solos, which has enough songs to last the first few years of learning to sing, and the Full Voice books in order to learn solfedge and some music theory. Once we have done some of the simpler songs that teach fundamentals, we then can add supplemental pieces (classical, folk, appropriate pop). As far as books go, I prefer the Hal Leonard method, especially for beginner musicians. I combine visual, audio and kinesthetic learning methods to tailor to anyone's needs. I graduated from George Mason University with a Master in Vocal Pedagogy and Bachelor of Music degree in piano and voice. I have the Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance at The Royal Conservatoire of Monaco. I was the Semi-Finalist of NATS, singing fluently in Italian, German, French, Latin and Korean. Performing all over the Northern Virginia and several states has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play both at the Performing Arts Concert Hall in Virginia, as well as music teacher as several performances as the principle director/pianist with Va Youth Orchestra.
