I tend to use standard materials, especially for beginning players. But I will also mix in exercises and techniques tailored specifically to the students needs. It is good to learn from books, but also important to vet information that is not necessarily needed or already soundly in their techniques. My musical involvements at school are focused in my performances with the CSUF Wind Symphony and the CSUF Symphony Orchestra, where I served as the principal clarinet for our last concert season. While I've been in college ,I've been fortunate to play in music festivals in both the US (Hawaii Performing Arts Festival) and Canada (Domaine Forget) and toured with the CSU Fullerton Wind Symphony in Portugal and China. I find that most young students or beginners need to see some form of result to stay engaged so I try and get them moving with sticks on a pad or even learning a basic drum beat within the first two lessons.
