I am a fun and energetic instructor who enjoys sharing my musical knowledge and pushing my students to challenge themselves. I have a Bachelor of Music as well as two Masters of Music, one in orchestral flute performance and the other specializing in contemporary performance. I enjoy many genres of music and have performed in Cabaret, jazz bands, marching bands, orchestras, chamber ensembles, and more. After graduating high school, I went to attend Montclair State University's Jazz program. I have been teaching kids from 5 to adults age 72 in New Jersey for 20 years, and just love it. I try to impart the joy of performing I learned in concert to the hearts and hands of my students. I also try to inspire them to bring their own songs, personality and ideas to the table, as their is no greater motivator to practice and perform. Every student is different. I tailor my teaching style to fit the needs of and goals of each individual student musician. Beginning students, especially children, need more guidance and structure to the lessons to get started, but its still important to keep them interested , engaged and having fun, so Ill typically integrate lessons on basic technique with songs that children already know. I focus on nurturing a students natural curiosity, while helping them find the tools to pursue their own musical interests. Many of my younger students prefer to use technology to connect with music (learning how songs are recorded, and the theory behind songwriting), but I also work with more serious students to prepare for college auditions, state/regional jazz band, etc. My methods differ depending on a student's own goals, but they generally all will start with a technical exercise, an exercise designed to get the student thinking critically, and an application of the concepts we're learning.
