Instruments: Voice

My method of coaching focuses on three main areas: diaphragmatic breathing, vocal fold alignment, and proper laryngeal positioning. These three areas have a direct impact on tone quality, placement and ease of transition from chest voice to mix voice. The first few lessons with a new student always begins with good diaphragmatic breathing exercises combined with edging techniques for fold alignment up to the first vocal bridge. Once the student feels comfortable in both of those areas, I then combine those areas with proper larynx positioning to seamlessly navigate their first vocal bridge! Read More

I like to work with students toward their goals. Setting achievable goals with the student and guiding them as they accomplish the goals. My teaching style is to mentor and coach students so they enjoy their time playing music as well as see their progress. Helping each student with the individual challenges the encounter is a priority, and every student is unique. I always take time to find out what inspires the student and tailor the lessons and repertoire so they enjoy the music they are working on. Read More

Though I adapt my approach and conversation techniques for all of my students, my underlying philosophy is the same for every student Ive ever taught. The philosophy is that progress is what were striving for, not perfection. I assess the skill and technical abilities and grow from that point. Moving forward is the goal, as a person, student, musician, and even my ability as a teacher. I also learn from my students which pushes me towards progress as well. Read More

Although my methods vary a bit depending on the instrument, the general plan is the same. For beginner students of instruments I focus first on fundamentals, such as finger placement, note names, what makes up chords so forth (again with a high emphasis on practice). I will gladly print out hard copies of chord sheets, note names, songs with chord markers if desired, or can display these digitally! For beginner students of voice, I start by teaching proper breathing, different parts of the voice, warm ups, and assessing the students vocal range. Read More

I'm a blessed man who has a talent I don't deserve, and I adore sharing with others. My recent acceptance as an Artist Endorser for Soultone Cymbals, is an honor indeed! I love Drum Workshop drums and hardware. I'm fortunate enough to share my skills with a band called Well-Known Strangers, and volunteer on the Great Lakes Church music team,. My studio is located in my residence. We will focus our time on your wishes since it's your skills we are developing. Read More

I want to set my students up for success. It's important for each student to move at his/her own pace. My studio has a relaxed atmosphere. Each student learns differently. I will do my best to tailor the lessons to the goals, needs and abilities of each student. I want to know what inspires the student. Acknowledging accomplishments helps drive students to progress - motivating the student to learn more. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
