Instruments: Piano

Not only will I teach you how to play piano . . . I will teach you how to read and play printed music. Learning to "play by ear" only teaches you how to play a few songs . . . learning to read music opens the door to a vast library of printed piano music! In addition to your method book, we will work on technique (finger exercises for strength and flexibility), theory (what makes music work), and repertoire (performance pieces). Read More

I have continued teaching private voice, in both my home and the student's home as well as online, since then after finding such a joy in individual teaching! I believe that proficiency on any instrument begins with understanding how the different parts of the instrument work together to create an optimal sound. All of my students will have an understanding of the system in place that allows them to chase the sound they hear in their heads. Whether you're 8 or 80, you won't find success if you don't know how to operate the machinery! Moreover, I believe that a passion for the instrument fits nicely into the passion that you feel for the music you love, so I try to get an understanding of the genres and groups that my students are currently interested in. Instruments: Trombone Euphonium

For beginners I focus mostly on creating a solid tone, building the muscles around their embouchure for endurance, flexibility, and ear training. I typically will start working with students out of Book 2 of John Kinyon's Basic Training Course for Trombone. Eventually, I will introduce the student to more of the typical etude books like Voxman's Selected Studies, Arban's Famous Method for Trombone, and Joannes Rochut's Melodious Etudes for trombone. Once I feel a student is ready I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for the student's skill level and as my studio grows I hope to have students working together in small ensembles and perform in a recital.
