I have always had a passion for teaching having worked as a private instructor and marching band instructor throughout my 20's and into my early 30's. I am certified to teach in the public schools. I have taught as a full time band director in the states of Tennessee and Ohio. I also worked as a part time band director in the Pittsburgh Catholic Schools. I am currently interviewing for full time positions in the state of Tennessee. Read More
Instruments: Voice
My method of coaching focuses on three main areas: diaphragmatic breathing, vocal fold alignment, and proper laryngeal positioning. These three areas have a direct impact on tone quality, placement and ease of transition from chest voice to mix voice. The first few lessons with a new student always begins with good diaphragmatic breathing exercises combined with edging techniques for fold alignment up to the first vocal bridge. Once the student feels comfortable in both of those areas, I then combine those areas with proper larynx positioning to seamlessly navigate their first vocal bridge! Read More

For beginner students who are children I like to start by teaching them the songs that they like, because that keeps them focused on learning and engaged in the beginning. Then I go on to teach them the industry standards and classics that every guitar player needs to know to be effective. Finally I can move on to teaching theory and the reason why songs sound good in the first place all the while doing both Mel Bay and Hal Leonard lessons when applicable. Read More

Schaum piano methods for the exercises(FINGERPOWER), theory(NOTESPELLER), and REPERTOIRE(Books named after specific colors). I like these books because they progress from simple to truly advanced. For teenagers and adults, I use the All-In-One Alfred piano method.Starts appropriately for level and age. 1 book covers the theory and repertoire we will need. I believe that young children should have lessons no more than 30 minutes. For some older, intermediate, and advanced; the lessons can go to 30-45 minutes. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice
Students under my instruction get a grasp of more than the usual elements taught in a music lesson. I push my students to the next level. There's so much more to it than memorizing the piece and being able to play or sing it on a technical level. I want my students to be conscious of how to behave on stage, what it means to perform and not just sing the song, how to connect with their audience with eye contact, and how to deliver music while not losing sight of their breathing, diaphragm, and control.
