I have been teaching in my own home and in student's homes for 9 years. I excel in teaching my students to be proficient sight readers because I want them to gain the ability to sit down with any piece of music and play it. I believe my job as a teacher has been fulfilled if my students reach a point where they no longer require my help. I also want my students to reap the benefits of music that go beyond performance at the keyboard, such as confidence, enhanced motor skills, challenging mental stimulation, a desire to learn, and emotional development. Instruments: Flute Piccolo
I am a flute/piccolo player in the DC area with experience teaching private lessons, group lessons and coaching small ensembles as well as extensive performance experience with various orchestras and chamber groups. I have spent summers at various music festivals, from the Monteux School in Maine to the American Institute of Musical Studies in Austria. I currently sub with Harrisburg and Lancaster Symphonies (PA) and freelance in and around Philadelphia and DC. Read More

I choose to work step by step. Not to force them or pressure them on anything. As I mentioned above, having this balance between having fun, enyoing and learning how to be responsible and dedicated, is healthy and efficient! Important is to understand that to learn an instrument, you also need to practice, at least 30 min per day and not just only wanting to have the lesson, because the progress will be very minimal and slow, and the learning process will become very boring. Instruments: Flute
I don't believe in just one way, each student is different! For beginners, often the struggle is getting a good sound out of the flute and learning fingering and how to read music all at the same time. I like to take it step-by-step with reasonable goals. As students progress, we start to incorporate more and more into the repertoire while focusing on fundamentals and sound. But, I like to keep it fun along the way by playing along with my students, bringing in duet music and listening to the greats like Galway. Read More

Not all students learn the same way, and it is my job as a teacher to be flexible and apply different teaching methods and styles based on the needs of an individual student. This process takes time, and I prefer to work with new students consistently and regularly during the first few months to establish a relationship, discover their individual passion for music and find their unique learning style. I hope to do this by instilling my own love and passion for music. i understand the challenges and rewards that come in learning music, and I love to share my own experiences with students to better connect and engage with students. From 2003-2014 I had the privilege of being a member of a local SOMD progressive acoustic rock band, Diojee. During that period we performed 86 shows, including charitable non-profit fundraisers, paid shows, and occasional private functions. Since I began my self-taught musical career in 2000 first with guitar, then with bass, I've started numerous friends and family on their own musical journeys. My previous band and I have performed in Annapolis, Solomon's Island, and various other cities, but the bulk of the performances were located in St. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet
My master's degree in trumpet performance at the University of Denver included a teaching assistantship: I taught trumpet lessons, coached brass quintets, trumpet ensembles, and more. I had a private studio in Denver and again in Cleveland, where I was before relocating to DC. In Cleveland I taught full-time and ended up with over fifty private students. My students there received such honors as entrance into the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and Youth Wind Symphonies. Read More
