2003 - 2014, - SOMD Progressive Acoustic Rock Band, Diojee (86 Shows - Paid Gigs/Charitible Fundraisers)

Overview:
I'm a lover of all types of music. Even if not familiar, I always give a song a chance, and lead by example. I started playing guitar in 2000, eventually learning to play the bass as well. 'Live band' type groups are my favorite for musical purposes, but hip-hop is probably my favorite genre overall (though not generally as conducive to play on guitar.) Blues music is also close to my heart. I was also a member of a band (Diojee) for 12 years starting in 2003, where i learned how to play the bass, an experience I wouldn't trade in for anything. When it comes to instructing, my main motivator is seeing the look on peoples' faces when they realize that they can do it. From there, the love of music can only grow (for me as well), and that's a language that we can all speak.
EXPERIENCE
From 2003-2014 I had the privilege of being a member of a local SOMD progressive acoustic rock band, Diojee. During that period we performed 86 shows, including charitable non-profit fundraisers, paid shows, and occasional private functions. Since I began my self-taught musical career in 2000 first with guitar, then with bass, I've started numerous friends and family on their own musical journeys. My previous band and I have performed in Annapolis, Solomon's Island, and various other cities, but the bulk of the performances were located in St. Mary's County, where I grew up.
METHODS USED
Everybody learns differently, and everybody has different skill-sets and levels. I also believe most people have different styles. For beginners just picking up a guitar (or bass), I'm more apt to have them refer to some curriculum outside of the lesson session, as opposed to more advanced students, where the discernment on what to use as reference varies with each individual. I'm definitely a fan of hands on learning (obviously with a musical instrument), but with this type of learning the practical application can be harder than a school course for example. That being said, I prefer to develop the curriculum myself on a case by case basis. I like to get to know each student, so I find this works the best for both parties.
LESSON STYLE
I believe to be successful, you have to want whatever it is you are working towards. When it comes to music, this is especially true. I love seeing people 'get' it when learning, and the joy in their eyes spills through in the form of their improved skills, attitude, and smiles. I also believe that for some, playing music can be a sort of therapy in disguise, because not only does it take the mind off the day-to-day grind, but in doing so you gain knowledge and experience with every strum. This, for me at least, just fuels my passion even more.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
