I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. So, although I have age specific methods, I realize there are exceptions that I need to identify. I also believe that piano should be rewarding and fun, so I make sure to highlight capabilities and give ability specific goals to improve.
