I have taught guitar for over twenty years to students of all ages and talents, in individual lessons and groups. I first started in my native Barcelona at the Taller de Msics, where I taught college-level students, jazz guitar, improvisation, and small jazz ensembles. In the United States, I have taught private lessons, group lessons, and after-school programs in Brooklyn and Manhattan. I continued this path teaching classical flute and jazz improvisation to anyone who would listen to me! In college, I worked with the saxophone players in the jazz department helping them develop their flute sound as a doubles instrument. For younger beginners I usually use books that feature simple arrangements of children songs and folk tunes as the basic musical material. This is done by setting realistic goals for each student at each lesson, keeping them inspired and interested in learning more. When you acknowledge students based on their accomplishments, it helps to fuel them a desire to progress and make them interested in learning more.
