Naturally, these depend on the individual and their needs. I began teaching beginner piano when I was in middle school and caught the teaching bug! (My dad was a high school choir teacher for thirty-five years, so I must have caught it from him.) Now I teach violin/fiddle, voice and piano. I believe that learning classical music and sight reading are both fundamentals to begin learning any instrument. When we learn how to speak, we also learn how to read and write in our language. I believe that the same is important for music. I use different books for adults and children.
