I use written materials including songs that have already been written by other composers, as well as my own etudes so that the lesson can be properly practiced. Depending on the individual student's technical ability and style of music they wish to learn, I write practice exercises specifically catered to them. Balance between discipline and creativity. We tend to lean towards certain musical elements at different  times of our musical developments. I try to be sensitive to the unique interests of each student, and at the same time use my experience to suggest material that would nourish their particular musical interests. There are a lot of aspects in learning to play the piano and explore music. For young students, I ask a parent to be involved in the training so that they can help the child with practicing. The key to young beginners is making everything fun and not going too fast.
