I come from a deep musical heritage and chose the trombone as my main instrument for spiritual reasons. While attending Los Angeles County High School for The Arts, I studied with jazz and trombone legends. Since moving to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, I've been studying with masters from many different disciplines. Virtually all other rock beats and fills that I have amassed in my 24 years of drumming since then have derived somehow from that initial beat, and from the spark it instilled in me. For beginners I usually begin with Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone and Fundamental Studies for Snare Drum by Garwood Whaley. Once the student has a good grasp on basic reading and technique, I usually introduce rudiments and start working on solo or play along repertoire.
