I have been teaching private drums lessons for more than 15 years now. My students have been from all ages and different proficiency levels, which has given me the experience of adapting myself to a variety of the students' learning approaches. My academic teaching experience also encompasses teaching as: *Assistant for Undergraduate Small Jazz Ensembles at The City College of New York 2012-2014. *Drumset/Ensemble Instructor at MM-Summer/ Winter Music Camp with students of ages 7-16 since 2014. *Accompanist/ Ensemble Assistant in the Voice Department at Berklee College of Music. I started teaching privately in college at Florida State University, and was even asked to teach for the F.S.U. summer jazz camp as the middle school instructor for their big band. I also taught trombone masterclasses as well as a small group. In New York I've taught privately for 5 years, and have also had the opportunity to work with elementary schools in the city doing jazz presentations through my Master's degree program at Manhattan School of Music. Instruments: Trombone Euphonium
For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has a grasp on the fundamentals of performance, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital or NYSSMA solo. After the student moves on from basic method books, I introduce more trombone-specific books such as Arban's Trombone Method Book and Rochut's Melodious Etudes for trombone. For adults, I like to find out what kind of music they want to play and plan my lesson accordingly to skill level. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to since I was 16 years old. I've been playing the guitar and singing since I was 12, so after 4 years of experience and a lot of practice it was suggested that I should also teach others what I've learned. I started as a volunteer teacher in a clinic, to then teach in the student's own house and charging for it. The key point to learning fast is practicing a little bit VERY often, so that the brain can assimilate what it is learning. Read More

Each student is so unique, so I tailor my curriculum to fit their goals. However, I ensure that each student walks away with ownership over the fundamentals of singing technique, so that they can grow on their own. We begin with a strong foundation and breathing technique, then weave in supported singing. With emphasis on breathing, we liberate the sound and expand the range. Then, we work to find resonance and beauty in the sound, so that the student may sing whatever style they choose! Read More

I am a native of Roma, Texas, a small town located in the far southern tip of the state. My music career initiated when my uncle, Jose F. Rodriguez, mentored me on classical guitar when I was 10 years old. My passion grew bigger by listening to recordings of the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Berlin Philharmonic and other prestigious orchestral ensembles around the world, so I finally decided to enroll as a student at Texas State University to study bass trombone under the guidance of Martin G. McCain. Read More
