Instruments: Piano Clarinet
For all of my students, regardless of level, playing together in lessons is a big part of my teaching method. Playing together in lessons fosters intonation, musical commutation skills and sound blending. For beginning students, I work a lot on sound production and tonguing through progressive etudes and duets. I incorporate performance environments early into my curriculum. For older students, I explore fundamentals through advanced etudes and work on solo repertoire, chamber music and orchestral excerpts. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I am self-taught so my method is my own. The result is the same, you become a drummer! I employ what I know and the process that I went through to achieve the playing level I am at currently. First and foremost, I want the student to have fun! Drumming is a great way to relieve stress and feel a sense of accomplishment as well. Depending on what a student wants to do, how far they want to take it, I cater my plan to those criteria. Read More
Instruments: Voice
My teaching experience is grounded in my performance experience. How can you have one without the other? I have performed in more than 28 roles including Falstaff in Otto Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, Germont in La Traviata, Valentin in Faust, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Schaunard in La Bohème, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, Silvio in I Pagliacci, Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly. Instruments: Clarinet
I was honored to serve over 500 students by enriching their arts education, and was inspired daily by their creativity, enthusiasm, and individualism. I began studying the clarinet at age 8, and graduated from the Eastman School of Music in May of 2017. I have had the opportunity to study at the Brevard Music Center and the Aspen Music Festival, where I performed both with student and faculty orchestras. Prior to beginning my collegiate studies, I was fortunate to take part in the inaugural year of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States through Carnegie Hall's Weill Education Institute. Instruments: Piano Violin Viola Music
The number one greatest thing about teaching is that no two students are ever the same. Each of my students comes to their lessons with a unique personality, and individual skills, and challenges, which made me realize that the best teacher is within the students themselves. I encourage my students to experience music, and develop their own understanding and taste before I step in to help them analyze the process. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I began teaching private lessons while I was at Carnegie Mellon University. I teach my students how to make sound and to breathe correctly. By teaching a healthy way of singing, students are less likely to damage their vocal chords later on in life. Regular practice on a consistent schedule will help the student to progress and therefore allow them to move on to more challenging music. I like to give a basis of classical music and classical voice technique which the student can then use for whichever genre they prefer to sing. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium French Horn Tuba
Students will always start with fundamentals to ensure a steady foundation. The exact materials may vary, but I usually create the specific exercises that students need to work on week to week. Each part of their individual practice session will have an 'aim' for students to focus on while they are playing. By teaching thoughtful practice, students can avoid wasted practice time and find success at more frequent intervals. Songs, solos, or etudes will be added in on a regular basis and focus on a technique the student is currently working on. Read More
