I have found that this pushes students to keep a regular practice routine, and also develops their ability to self-critique and correct their own playing. This will start you off with a solid foundation that will help you play what ever musical styles you wish. I like to start students off with simple scales and melodies that will build up your dexterity, muscle memory and general ability to play the instrument.
