After college and marrying, I spent several years in Greece raising my daughters. There, I launched a career in teaching English. My students ranged in age from 3 years old to 65. Making lessons fun is my top priority, and I show that learning the basics and the fundamentals can be fun, if it is done correctly. For beginning students, I use John Thompson's books. Students progress through Bastien, and Burgmuller, before moving on to graduated solo repertoire. Since I strongly believe each person has his own learning style, I cater each lesson to him personally. I customize each lesson according to my student and the pace appropriate for him. Typically one of my pre-college student's lesson bags will include the following material: a lesson book, theory book, technique book, 1 or 2 supplementary repertoire books, notebook, flashcards, and handouts, which include sight-reading, lead sheets, progress charts, memos, etc. Not every item will be used each lesson, but certainly each month.
