My teaching philosophy is rooted in fostering both technical proficiency and creative expression. To achieve this, I employ a combination of established techniques and personalized approaches: Using the George L. Stone stick control book as a foundational tool, I promote limb independence and improve technical skills. This classic method helps students develop precise control and coordination, essential for any percussionist. Understanding that each student is unique, I create customized exercises that cater to their individual strengths and areas for improvement. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
My main priority as an educator is to keep music fun and enjoyable while you progress on a path towards mastery of an instrument. Music is an art and a discipline, but it's purpose has always been to provide entertainment, share feelings, incite dance, and accompany celebration. To retain that passion for music while you learn, the focus has to always be on sound, not concepts. You should hear yourself often, be able to hear your improvement, and be able to point towards a tangible goal for your playing. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
I am a professional violinist and violist based in the Tri-State area with a passion for helping people discover and accomplish their musical goals. I have been playing the violin for over 25 years and I feel very fortunate to be able to do what I really love. I hold a Master's and Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. I have had the great fortune of performing at world renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Avery Fisher Hall in New York, as well as Constitution Hall in Washington DC. Instruments: Flute
I welcome passing on what has been for me a world class jazz improvisation and flute instruction. This includes instruction from Frances Blaisdell, of world fame as a flute instructor at Manhattan School of Music and Stanford University. I also attended the jazz studies program at Rutgers University with specific instruction from Ted Dunbar and Kenny Barron. Also, while living in San Francisco studied with Bobby Hutcherson and Woody Shaw. Read More

My approach to teaching is to share my love for music with my students. I will allow students to go at their own pace, and set realistic goals and expectations. I like to focus on intonation heavily, as anything other than excellent intonation is not good playing, in the words of a former instructor. I also encourage creative expression in my students, and will often ask them to try different methods of playing a single phrase in order to increase the depth of their musicality. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I was a child prodigy, able to play piano when I was 5 years. I began formal lessons when I was ten, and quickly progressed. I gave numerous recitals as a student. I received music scholarships to high school and college. I have had a lot of teaching experience in public and private schools. I am always well prepared, and patient with my students. They are happy to be learning with me and enjoy their lessons. Read More
Instruments: Guitar
For students who have no experience, I start with Alfreds Kids Guitar Course 1. I want my students to learn the essentials such as basic reading skills, beginner chords, and basic theory. For my students that have this foundation built, I teach using the Major Method. This method was created by my teacher, Rolf Sturm, who insists that its the fastest and easiest way to learn the entire neck of the guitar. Read More
