I teach the basics first. I show my student how to hold the bow and the violin in detail. I explain that it will be awkward to hold the bow in correct position because it is unusual for person to hold the right hand that way. After several days of practice, this bow hold will become more natural to the student. Holding the violin in the proper position is also important in order to be able to play music. Read More

I believe in approaching each student individually. Each student's ability and/or understanding, no matter the level, may very, sometime drastically. So I tend to each student's individual needs on a case-by-case basis. I use various methods such as the Arban's book for fundamentals, Bordogni vocalise for lyrical style and stamina, various solo repertoire, and many more depending on the student's level of skills and understanding. I began learning how to play in middle school, when I was about 13 years old. Guitar Hero Rock Band became very popular, and it sparked my interest in playing an instrument. I usually start off with Bastian Primer Book. Then I move on to the FaberFaber Piano Adventures Series. In conjunction with this series,I will supplement with other pieces that I feel will inspire and challenge them. if the student requests a certain piece or style of piece they would like to work on, I definitely make sure to grant it to them. This only tells me that they are really having fun and is eager to learn more. Read More

I love music, and I love seeing my students grow through their own musical success! We start our first lessons with a foundation of basic musical ideas, which focus on connecting the keyboard to the written notes. In addition to developing a good ear, I believe that a strong music reading foundation is key to my students' success. We set weekly and monthly goals, and encourage students to try something new each lesson. Read More

What is rewarding is to see my students developed a love for classical and gospel music! Therefore, it is important that each student advances at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting ambitious goals for my pupils at their lessons. Recognizing their strengths and weaknesses assists students in improving their musical skills, and makes them hungry for more knowledge. By trying to find out what motivates the student, I can successfully match my teaching to what they need and want for themselves. Read More

Marcia Littley is one of my major inspirations to why I want to become a music teacher. Not only because of WHAT she taught me, but HOW she taught me. My goal as a teacher is to make sure that when students have lessons with me, that it becomes their safe-space to learn and to grow. Something I always teach my students is that in life, you NEVER stop learning. Read More
