I began teaching while working on my undergraduate degrees at CSU Northridge. I worked as an elementary school trumpet instructor. After graduating form CSUN I began teaching privately garnering much success with my students. For a time I worked as an orchestra conductor for the youth symphony west program running the advanced orchestra and intermediate string ensemble. I like to create lessons in which students learn to read traditional music notation, develop technique, and play familiar tunes. I use musictheory.net to help student practice reading note names. The faster a student can read musical notation, the faster the student can pick up new pieces. To develop technique, I want students to lean scales and arpeggios. Sometimes, we use a technique book to develop muscle memory, and other times technical exercises are created based on the tricky musical passages of solo or ensemble pieces. Read More

I teach the fundamentals of music, and I make sure you know how to read music. Piano can be a challenging instrument to learn and play, but I can teach you the tricks to make it easy.  For example, I can teach you to play and sing Beatles songs in two to three weeks.  I highly encourage my students to be creative, but I don't require it.  Creativity can be utilized even when you are playing Mozart or Bach.  I also teach improvisation,songwriting, and music production with Ableton Live.
